Christian Corbet

Christian Corbet (1966-) is regarded as one of Canada’s most renowned artists, art historians and patrons. He studied under the private tutelage of Hamilton born sculptor Dr. Elizabeth Bradford Holbrook, CM, O. ONT, SSC, OSA, RCA, AOCAD, CPA (1913-2009).

His portrait sculptures, mixed media landscape paintings and drawings prove him to be a prolific creator in contemporary abstraction with his own unique style. He has taken his place in a distinctive succession of prominent artists. However; he has done so as an individual and without any sense of breaking with his tradition.

Some of Corbet’s many important sitters include HRH The Prince Philip, Margaret Atwood, Colonel George Stanley, Dr. Jane Goodall, Countess Mountbatten of Burma, General Romeo Dallaire, JAD McCurdy among numerous others.

Corbet is also a noted forensic artist. From having created facial reconstructions of Egyptians mummies, to assisting in the positive identification of a WWI Canadian soldier for the Department of National Defence. Most recently Corbet created a forensic facial reconstruction of King Robert the Bruce, denouncing the 700 year old belief that the Scottish King suffered from leprosy.

Corbet has been granted the titles “Sculptor-in-Residence for the Royal Canadian Navy in 2012. And “Regimental Sculptor for The Royal Canadian Regiment” by HRH The Prince Philip in 2013. Corbet is also a recipient of the Diamond Jubilee Medal and was awarded a Grant of Armourial Bearings and Badge from the Crown.

He is represented in over 100 art galleries, museums and institutions worldwide to include The Royal Collection, The British Museum, The Canadian War Museum and the Rijksmuseum.

Christian Corbet is currently sculpting the official portraits of The Right Honourable Beverley McLachlan, Chief Justice of Canada, the Chief of Defence Staff General Jonathan Vance and the “Mother of Neuropsychology” Dr. Brenda Milner.
